Volunteer Opportunities

Resolve of Greater Hartford is a completely volunteer-run organization. We are in always in need of assistance to help us continue to run our current programs, as well as, plan for the future. We are a friendly and supportive group who have either resolved their infertility through medical treatment, adoption or the decision to remain child-free, are still undergoing medical treatment, or are still deciding what the next step is in their family building efforts. If you are looking for a worthwhile cause to put your energy and creativity into - please consider joining us!

Volunteers are needed in the following areas, although you are welcome to join us and figure out how you can help out without making any commitments:

  • Advocacy Committee Members:  2 hours per month for assistance in responding to Helpline or email inquiries plus additional time commitment as needed, especially once the legislative session begins in January. Duties include continuously advancing our Chapter's efforts to educate and help patients decipher the new 2005 mandated infertility insurance coverage, coordinating outreach efforts to patients, physicians and other interested parties, assisting with email alerts, legislator visits, telephone trees, legislative testimony, media responses; acting as liaison between patients and legislators, staff and members of the Office of the Connecticut Department of Insurance and/or Connecticut's Office of Healthcare Advocate. Also assist National RESOLVE as needed with its efforts at the federal level concerning other family building legislation including the Adoption Tax Credit which is scheduled to expire in 2011.

  • Book Reviews. Time commitment: as needed. Volunteers read books suggested by other volunteers covering issues concerning adoption, infertility, etc. and write up a summary and rating to be included in a future newsletter.

  • Education Coordinators:  Rotating position to help plan and run quarterly educational seminars.

  • Graphic Design: 2-3 hours/month, as needed. Volunteers help with creating flyers, newsletter layouts, etc.

  • HelpLine Volunteer: 1 hour/week for 2-4 weeks at a time. Volunteers call in to the HelpLine message center from their home 2-4 times per week, retrieve messages and call people back with answers to questions. Inquiries generally surround support group meetings, educational seminars, referrals, resources and general emotional support. Training, materials and support are provided. Volunteers receive a phone card.

  • Outreach Committee Members: 1 hour/month or more. Volunteers deliver newsletters, brochures, flyers to doctors' offices in their area (targeted areas are infertility clinics in New Haven, New Britain, Springfield). People are also needed to attend the UConn's Center for Advanced Reproductive Services IVF orientations sessions (the 1st and 3rd Thursday of every month) for about 15 minutes to introduce and explain about Resolve and its resources. We are also looking for volunteers to go to clinic waiting rooms in the early mornings (can be done over the weekend) to provide literature, talk about Resolve and provide support over coffee/snacks while women wait for their ultrasound appointments.

  • Media/Public Relations:  As needed.  Volunteers with experience and/or interest in public relations needed to help promote and market our programs and services to media outlets, the general public, and people facing infertility.

  • Newsletter:  4 times per year.  We are always looking for original articles about your experiences with adoption, child free living,  coping, medical treatment, decision making, alternative treatments or any other topic related to your infertility journey.  We can also use assistance with covering chapter special events and nterviewing or procuring written articles from physicians and other medical or adoption professionals.

  • Seminar General Assistance: 4 times per year. Volunteers help with any or all aspects of planning and/or running a seminar including making phone calls, set-up of refreshments, literature hand-outs, sign-in, clean-up etc.

  • Volunteer Coordinators: Rotating position to help coordinate volunteer efforts at all levels.
